A fresh new look for Legal & General

Legal & General (L&G), one of the UK’s leading financial services companies, wanted to bring its website up to date. With Umbraco 8 reaching end-of-life, it was the perfect chance to simplify things, improve performance, and align the site with its refreshed brand.

Simpler, faster, easier to find

The old setup made publishing a chore, with too many rigid templates and a clunky structure that slowed everything down. L&G’s brief was clear: move to Umbraco 13, speed things up, and give users (and editors) a much smoother experience.

We rebuilt the site from the ground up, focusing on flexibility, speed, and accessibility:

- Lightning-fast performance thanks to server-side rendering and caching, boosting both SEO and hosting efficiency.
- A leaner design system – 40 templates cut down to just 8, built modularly for cleaner code and easier editing.
- Better navigation and accessibility, with a mega menu, consolidated reporting hubs, predictive search, and thoughtful design touches like larger fonts, sticky navigation, and alt text for all imagery.
- Agile delivery, starting with automated migration of press releases so L&G could test and shape the site early on.

The impact

The new site is faster, more stable, and easier to manage. Lighthouse scores jumped, clicks rose by 38% (from 7,922 to 10,964), and the new reporting hub quickly became one of the most visited areas – now ranking for over 300 keywords.

L&G have praised not just the results but also the collaborative process and creative approach that got us there. And the cherry on top? The site has been shortlisted for Best Corporate Website in the 2025 Corporate & Financial Awards.
