RY Next Gen: 'Expanding my knowledge and continuing my journey'

Shortly after finishing University, (which, despite all its ups and downs – thanks, Covid – was a great experience) I began my new journey at RY as a Next Gen intern. I was pretty anxious to begin with and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but nothing is ever as scary as you think it will be! I was welcomed in as part of the team right from the start, everyone has been so helpful, offering constant advice, tips and tricks - even with the small things like booking a meeting room.

 

I have had a few challenges to overcome; my level of confidence, getting to know new people and finding what area I would be not just best suited to but enjoy working and thriving in. However, I need not have worried as I got to experience working across many teams with many new people, making friends and learning skills in each one. I’ve also really enjoyed working with the other interns and sharing our experiences and expectations. We’ve been able to talk through our intern projects, practised presentations and even worked on live briefs together.

 

I’ve realised my confidence has also developed with each new project I have worked on. I’ve been able to showcase my abilities to clients such as GSK and Deutsche bank, but of course my favourite job was the RY dog calendar. I decided to keep my own pup ‘Buzz’ away from RY towers for this; he definitely lacks socials skills and I couldn’t have him trying to steal the limelight!

 

Working remotely can make getting to know people a bit trickier, but RY have remedied this with all the social events. From ‘Christian’s Kitchens’ to a ‘few’ Christmas parties, I was able to show I had more than design skills on offer, with a couple of my Christmas cocktails making a debut.

 

I’m constantly learning new skills and expanding my knowledge and I’m very happy to say that I’ll be continuing my journey at RY permanently as a junior designer!

 

Finally, thanks so much to everyone at RY for making the experience what it’s been and making it such an amazing place to work. I look forward to meeting the next generation of Next Gen interns and making sure there’s always a friendly face here!
