M&S and Balfour Beatty recognised at PwC Building Trust Awards 2011

02 November 2011

Placed first in the FTSE 100 category, Marks & Spencer received outstanding reviews from the award judges. Comments included:

"This report benefits from an excellent, user-friendly structure that clearly links the company's strategy with its seven focus areas, the objectives of each focus area, and the commitments made to achieve these objectives.  The information provided on each of the commitments is adequate without being voluminous.  The report also provides a clear, balanced performance overview that clearly illustrates good performance and areas for further work."

Balfour Beatty achieved Highly Commended status for the second year running. Judges commented:

"A strong report that illustrates clear linkages between business strategy, sustainability and business risks and opportunities.  The report also provides a detailed outline of the company's sustainability vision and roadmap, including an illustration of the mechanisms in place to measure progress.  It goes on to explain why the issues identified are relevant to the business, as well as providing an overview of the action plan/approach for each issue, and brings these to life with performance information and case studies."

We would like to offer our congratulations to both Marks & Spencer and Balfour Beatty on this well-deserved recognition and also to all the other winners and finalists at the awards.
